Have you ever found yourself running to the store last minute to buy a get well card, an anniversary card or some other type greeting card? Wouldn’t it be nice to have the means to make a greeting card quickly to suit any occasion? It takes maybe one evening of prep and you’ll have a nice stockpile of original photo greeting cards to use at a moment’s notice.

1) First of all, gather your materials. This will probably take the most time. Buy packages of blank note cards and envelopes at a craft Store, like Michael’s or Ben Franklin. You also need scrapbooking tape and an assortment of photos that you’ve taken. Get printed photos so you know how they look on paper. You can either do this yourself from any online photo processing, or order the prints from a photo lab. Order several of each photo print that you want to make into a card.

2) On blank note paper, youill see how the photo looks on each and then choose which one looks best. Attach the scrapbooking tape to the reverse side of the photo, paying attention to the edges and corners. Then center the photo and affix to the front of the greeting card, either horizontally or vertically.

3) You can leave the inside blank, or add a message with rubber stamps. It’s a matter of minutes to add “Happy Anniversary” or “Thank You” or “Get Well Soon” with a rubber stamp to make the card more specific.

4) You can make these cards as fancy or as simple as you’d like. You can layer paper under the photo, or choose different color blank note cards.

You don’t want to trust your digital prints to just anyone, so choosing a printing service provider may require a bit of research. Here are a few tips on how to make the right decision for your needs that can be implemented for traditional processing or online photo processing.

1) Price. While a few cents won’t usually matter, if you’re doing a large print job you may want to shop around. Some providers offer great deals for new customers, such as 50 prints for free.

2) Convenience. Look for providers in your neighborhood. You’ll save on shipping costs and will be more likely to get those pictures printed in a timely fashion.

3) Software. Most of these service providers who allow orders via the Internet use some type of software or existing photo program for the management and submission of the files for printing. Make sure you like using that software before you make your choice.

Consider Alternatives

If you’re not happy with any of your printing service options, there are other alternatives to printing. You can create online albums and share them with friends and family that way. You can also save them on CD-Roms so you have a back-up copy.
